Learn To Love Live Trees!

We know shopping and caring for a live Christmas tree can be a real pain, and that is why we at Nalls Produce love to do whatever we can to take the misery out of the experience and leave you with nothing but great memories and stories of success.  That is why we are committed to supplying the freshest of trees, so that you don’t go home with a tree that’s already  drying out and dropping needles .  Thus, we will get regular shipments of fresh trees so that even if you can’t get your tree until the week of Christmas, you’re not left picking from among old, dried out trees.  Also, not only do we have trees in a wide selection of sizes, varieties and price points, but many of them are sourced from along the East Coast.  It further helps to ensure freshness, and it sets us apart from many other tree lots, especially your “big box stores” because most of the trees on retail this time of year are actually from the West Coast.

To further help make the experience a joy, we stand or hang each of our trees so that you can get a 360 view.  Thin spots can’t hide from you!  Then once you’ve selected your tree, we will bundle it in netting and tie it down to or load it into your vehicle at no extra charge.  Also, we love to give each tree a fresh trim on the trunk to help allow for maximum water absorption, in case any sap has started to seal off the base.  So whether you want just a slice taken off, or a whole section, it’s our pleasure to do so -- again, at no additional cost to you!  Even if you want branches removed, we’re happy to help, and if you like, we’ll even save them for you in case you have something crafty in mind to use them for.  Then for our customers who use the Stand-Strait tree stands (if you could marry a tree stand, we would marry THIS tree stand, we are in love with it!), we’ll drill a fresh hole in the trunk base so that when you get home all you have to do is line up the hole with the pin, upright the tree and ta-da, no additional pins to adjust, no crooked tree, and no aggravation.  If you’ve spent one too many holidays stuck under the tree, adjusting pins while someone else says, “No, a little more to the left.  That’s good!  Oh wait, no it’s still crooked. Try again” and had visions of tantrums dancing in your head, then we cannot possibly recommend this Stand-Strait tree stand any more.  It’s what we use in our homes, because it is truly that no muss and no fuss.  Plus, the stands hold a fantastic amount of water which means less time for you crawling under the tree to add water, and if you have a thirsty pet they’ll be hard pressed to lap up all the water and dry your tree out before you can get to it.

We don’t want to just sell you a tree, we want to give you a memory, because nothing says Christmas quite like the smell of a fresh evergreen and watching all of your family ornaments twinkle on the branches.  But for most of us, live trees have become so much of an aggravation that the bad outweighs the good.  So along with all the things we will do on our end to help give you a jumpstart to Christmas tree success, here are our additional suggestions to help take the stress out of decorating with a live tree:

  • We recommend getting your tree into water immediately upon getting it home.  If you’ve got to move furniture before bringing your tree in, no problem.  Just fill a bucket with some hot water and prop the tree up with the trunk in the water.  This will help prevent sap from sealing off the base.
  • If you’re in the market for a new tree stand, we highly recommend the Stand-Strait Tree Stands (available in store).  It truly is as easy as popping the legs onto the pin base, placing it into the water bin, lining up the drill hole in the base of your tree with the pin, then lowering the tree onto the pin and giving it a spin or two to make sure it’s fully down on the pin.  You’ll have a perfectly straight tree every single time!  Like we said, we would marry this tree stand if we could!
  • When you first add water to your tree stand, we recommend adding hot water to help dissolve any sap that may have started to seal the base.
  • Check the water level twice a day.  The first few days, it will take up a lot of water, but this will taper as the days go on.  If you hate crawling under the tree, we’ve got these fantastic water funnels, called Santa’s Magic Water Spout, that you stick into your tree stand (hidden around back so no one can see) and pour your water into the funnel spout.  There’s even a deluxe version that has a dipstick to check the water level!
  • Do not let your water level dip below the base of the trunk, as sap will begin to form and will seal off the tree.  Thus, no matter how much water you add after that, it won’t absorb it.  But should your water level drop below the trunk line, refill with hot water to dissolve any sap and you’ll be good as new.
  • Close any heat vents that may blow on the tree, and if you can, keep it away from windows where it would receive direct sunlight, especially intense afternoon sun.
  • Do not keep any exposed flame near your tree,  and be sure to check all of your Christmas lights to make sure there are no shorts, exposed wiring or other potential fire hazards.
  • Use Prolong Tree Preservative (available in store) to help promote the vitality of your tree and help keep needles from dropping.  It’s completely safe and non-toxic to pets, so even if Fido get’s thirsty, he’ll be okay.
  • Once you’re ready to take down your tree, use a tree removal bag (available in store) to help prevent a mess of needles throughout your house and all over you.  Plus, your garbageman will thank you for having your tree in a nice, neat bundle!
