Alleged Teenage Speeder Caught With Citizen Tip

Springfield teen charged with reckless driving and speeding to elude

Police caught an alleged speeder Sunday night with help from a bystander.

Around 8 p.m., police say an officer saw a red 1996 Acura Integra speeding near Healy Drive and Belfast Lane. The officer tried to stop the car, but the Acura's driver allegedly did not stop and continued down Hanover Street, to Old Keene Mill Road. The officer in pursuit lost the vehicle, but continued looking for it.

A nearby onlooker told police they saw the car turning onto Ava Street, where officers found the vehicle and its driver. The driver, a 17-year-old Springfield boy, was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. He has been charged with speed to elude, reckless driving, possession of tobacco by a minor, and six counts of failing to stop at a stop sign. The Acura was impounded.
