Attic Fire in Newington Home

Fire causes minor damage to insulation

Fairfax firefighters responded around 12:30 Thursday afternoon to an attic fire in Newington. The fire caused only minor damage.

The fire in the house, at 6740 Bulkley Rd., began after an electrical short started a fire in some attic insulation, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Lieutenant Matt Black.

Black said that no other damage was caused. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters remained to make sure no other parts of the insulation were smoldering and able to cause another fire later.
