Barricade Situation Closes Kingstowne Street

Police hostage negotiators, SWAT team were called to scene

A man threatening to hurt himself resulted in the closure of a portion of Kingstowne Village Parkway late Sunday night.

Fairfax County and Rescue Department Battalion Chief Brian Brendel described the incident as a "barricade situation" around 11:20 p.m., and said police negotiators had been called in to speak with the man.

The exact location of the man and negotiators was unclear, although police closed Kingstowne Village Parkway from King Centre Drive to Summer Ridge Road.

At least a dozen emergency vehicles assembled in a staging area in the Toys R Us parking lot at 6001 Kingstowne Village Parkway. Fairfax County Police Department vans for both the bomb disposal unit and the SWAT team were among the vehicles in the area.
