Brush Fire Near Twain Middle School

Fire involves two acres of land

An early morning brush fire near Mark Twain Middle School was aggravated by windy weather, a fire official says.

Around 3:00 Saturday morning, a brush fire started in the wooded area near the school. Within 30 minutes, the fire was contained, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Thomas Grailing.

The area around the fire was more combustible because of high winds drying out the plants, Grailing said. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Alexandria area from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

"The woods are very dry right now," Grailing said.

Four fire engines were called to the scene. Grailing said the fire did not damage any property.
