Connection Newspapers CEO Begins Prison Term

Peter Labovitz is scheduled to be released in May

Peter Labovitz, the president of Connection Newspapers, has begun his prison term, Mediabistro reports.

Labovitz, a 70-year-old Alexandria resident, will serve a six-month sentence at Otisville Federal Corrections Institute, a medium-security prison in New York state.

In July, Labovitz to failing to pay the IRS nearly $1 million in payroll taxes. In September, to the prison term, as well as an obligation to pay back $647,510.

In a July statement on the Connection website, Labovitz wrote that he originally fell behind in paying payroll taxes following 9/11. The company also did not pay its full payroll tax obligation following the 2007 recession.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator, Labovitz is scheduled for release on May 2, 2012.
