Court Reviews Competency Progress of Kingstowne Murder Suspect

A preliminary hearing for the case of Eric Kweder, the suspect in the Franconia murder, was held Thursday afternoon.

A preliminary hearing was held at 2 p.m. Thursday to review the progress of Eric Kweder's competency evaluation, according to court records. In early February, a judge granted Kweder's public defender's motion to be reviewed for incompetence and his present mental state.

At the preliminary hearing in February, Kweder's presence was waived due to behavioral issues while in custody. During the hearing, Kweder was described as being "combative" and "acting out."

Kweder was arrested and charged with second degree murder in late November after FCPD received a report of a suspicious death on Hydrangea Drive in Franconia. The victim — 32-year-old Andy Lun Yun — was struck with a blunt object, according to police. A few hours after the incident and receiving the report, police located and arrested Kweder about five miles from the crime scene after a police chase.
