Driver in Fatal Franconia Crash Charged with Manslaughter

Passenger Adrian Cardozo died after the crash

The driver in a fatal February crash on Franconia Road has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

On February 15, Joseph Shuttleworth, 21, of the 6200 block of Lewin Drive in Franconia, was driving his car eastbound on Franconia Road around 2 a.m. Police say his car . Police blamed the crash on alcohol and speed.

While Shuttleworth only received minor injuries, Adrian Cardozo, a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. Cardozo succumbed to his injuries less than a week later.

On May 5, Shuttleworth was charged with involuntary manslaughter. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 20.

Shortly after the accident, Shuttleworth was with driving while intoxicated, but that charge was dropped.
