Edsall Road Building Evacuated After Discovery of Suspicious Package

Package discovered in government-operated mail packaging facility around 8 a.m.

Police partially evacuated a government building on Edsall Road Monday morning after the discovery of a suspicious package.

Fairfax County police received a call around 8:10 a.m. about the package at 6295 Edsall Road, according to Franconia District spokesperson Officer Eduardo Azcarate. Police and fire department units responded, as well as the FCPD Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, which handles bombs.

Part of the building was evacuated by police after the discovery of the package.

The package was discovered in a mail-sorting area. Azcarate did not know why the package was considered suspicious.

The building is leased by the federal government, but Azcarate would not say what agency or department had offices in the building. However, a sign at the office complex shows that the Social Security Administration has an office there.
