Fatal Shooting in Springfield Home

Fairfax Police investigators label incident a 'suspicious death.'

Fairfax Police detectives are investigating a 'suspicious death' after discovering a woman shot to death in her Springfield home.

The victim has been identified as Serena Hansken-Vierimaa, 41. Officers responded to a call of shots fired at the home in the 7100 block of Healy Drive around 6 p.m.

No one answered the door, according to a statement from police. Lucy Caldwell, public information officer with the Fairfax County Police Department, said multiple attempts were made to call inside the home, but there was no response. Additionally, several tactical officers and negotiators were called to the scene.

"Since there was a report of a gun involved, there were additional measures put into place to protect the residents in the neighborhood," said Caldwell.

Officers entered the home at approximately 9 p.m. and found Hansken-Vierimaa dead.

"The other occupant of the home, Aaron Vierimaa, 41, was not injured," according to police. "He was charged with obstruction of justice."
