Follow @fairfaxpolice for updates and information.

Fairfax County residents can now follow the Fairfax County Police Department on Twitter.

The department announced the launch of its account—@fairfaxpolice—on Tuesday in an email release.

“The agency will tweet news releases, updates to the website, information on public meetings, and other information that may be of interest to the county’s one-million-plus residents,” according to the release.

The department is encouraging residents to use Twitter to ask general questions, which will be answered during office hours between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Crimes should not be reported on the new social media platform—anyone with information regarding a crime should call 911 for emergencies or 703-691-2131 for non-emergencies.
