FCPD Uses Electronic Signs for Tips in Hit and Run

The Fairfax County Police Department are currently investigating a hit and run in which a 16-year-old boy was injured. The police are seeking assistance from the public.

The Fairfax County Police Department recently placed electronic sign boards in the area where a hit and run occurred Friday night. Police are currently seeking information about the striking vehicle or the driver.

FCPD's preliminary investigation determined that a red minivan was traveling south on Telegraph Road and entered the left turn lane to turn left onto Broadmoor Street in front of Hayfield Secondary School. The minivan hit a 16-year-old boy who was walking in the crosswalk in that intersection.

Police say the minivan may have sustained damage to the front end, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with what were believed to be serious but non-life threatening injuries.

PIO Lucy Caldwell said the electronic sign boards are placed in the area of the crash to target the message to motorists who often travel in that area. As of Tuesday, Caldwell also said there have been no updates about the victim's condition.

Police are encouraging the driver of the minivan to come forward to resolve this incident. They are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the hit and run, or who has any information about the striking vehicle and/or its driver to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
