Franconia District: 2nd Most Crimes in Fairfax County in 2010

The Franconia Police District had the second-highest number of crimes in Fairfax County in 2010, according to the Fairfax County Police Department's 2010 Annual Report.

In 2010, the district had 2,751 crimes reported, down from 3,290 in 2009. It was also second highest in three categories of crime: burglary, larceny and vehicle theft. 

Compared to 2009, the Franconia District saw decreases in all three of the categories above. The 2010 numbers are as follows: 

Burglary: 184, down from 262 in 2009.

Larceny: 2,267, down from 2,635 in 2009.

Vehicle Theft: 161, down from 266 in 2009.

In those three categories, vehicle thefts were down overall in Fairfax County, from 1,096 in 2009 to 963. Burglaries were also down overall, from 1,385 in 2009 to 1,211. Larcenies were down overall as well, from 15,643 in 2009 to 14,345. 

Franconia District's numbers in other crime categories - murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault - were higher than some districts and lower than others. 

Murder: 2, the same as 2009.

Rape: 11, down from 17 in 2009.

Robbery: 63, down from 66 in 2009. 

Aggravated Assault: 63, up from 42 in 2009.

In those four categories, murders were up overall in Fairfax County, from 14 in 2009 to 16. Rapes were down overall, from 105 in 2009 to 74. Robberies were slightly up overall, from 386 in 2009 to 394. Aggravated assaults were also up, from 309 in 2009 to 450.
