Police: KMart Shoplifting Suspect Says Security Guard Coerced Sexual Act

Fairfax County Police officials say the incident reportedly took place Saturday afternoon at KMart in Springfield Plaza.

Fairfax County police officers responded Saturday afternoon to reports of a sexual assault at the KMart at Springfield Plaza.

Officers were called to 6364 Springfield Plaza at 4 p.m. Saturday, where a 23-year-old woman reported she was sexually assaulted.

Earlier in the day, the victim was detained and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, according to police. The woman told police a loss prevention officer at the store coerced her into performing a sexual act. The victim was transported to a hospital.

Police detectives conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of suspect Tabbasum H. Gilani, 29, of Lorton. Police said Gilani was the loss prevention officer who detained the victim earlier in the day. Gilani was charged with abduction with intent to defile and forcible sodomy. He was transported the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
