March Fairfax County Animal Control Incident Report

Every week, the Fairfax County Police Department releases a list of Animal Control incidents at the end of its weekly incident report. Patch will compile these responses at the end of each month for our readers’ convenience.

License and Rabies Violation

Around 5:30 p.m. on March 4, 2012, officers responded to the 5500 block of Malone Ridge Street to investigate reported maltreatment of a dog. According to police, dog was all right, but the owner, Katie Eberhardt Roundtree, 24, could not provide any rabies or license information. She was charged accordingly.

Animal at Large/Dog Bite

Around 6 p.m. on March 8, 2012, a victim reported he had been bitten by a brown German Shepherd that was being chased by two girls near 7400 Lee Highway. No identity was obtained.

Animal Cruelty

Around 1:45 p.m. on March 9, 2012, Animal Control Officers responded to a complaint that dogs had been abandoned by their owner at the 9800 block of Hagel Circle. Pamela Beneke, 43, of Lorton was charged with four counts of animal cruelty. (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/news-releases/2012/031212animalcruelty.htm)

Animal Bite

Around 5:40 p.m. on March 9, 2012, officers responded to a report of an 8-year-old girl being bitten by a dog on the 5900 block of Rilian Court. The German Shepherd had gotten loose from its yard and was routinely quarantined.

License Violation

Around 9:45 on March 10, 2012, Animal Control officers responded to a report of a dog running loose near the 6600 block of Chestnut Avenue. The animal was found at home when officers investigated. The owner, Osbin Ortega Ramos, 19, of Falls Church, was charged for not having a dog license.

Maltreatment of an Animal

Around 1:15 p.m. on March 15, 2012, Animal Control Officers responded to a report of a dog locked in a vehicle on the 15000 block of Conference Center Drive. After the fire department was able to enter the vehicle and remove the dog, William Fraser, 59, of Norfolk, was charged with providing inadequate shelter. The dog was not injured.

Maltreatment of an Animal

Around 3 p.m. on March 23, 2012, Animal Control officers responded to a report of a Springer Spaniel/Labrador mix and her puppies living in filth and not being provided food or drink at the 5000 block of Harford Lane.

The owner, Gerard Thompson, 21, of Burke was charged with being an unfit owner and providing unsanitary conditions. He was also charged with not having a county animal license, and no proof of rabies vaccination. The dogs were transported to an animal shelter after an examination by a veterinarian. 

Maltreatment of an Animal

Around 2 p.m. on March 24, 2012, Animal Control officers were called to check on a German Shepherd mix who was tethered to a front railing on the 14600 block of Summer Court. The dog was seized due to its condition and inadequate shelter, according to police. A petition is being sought for an unfit owner.
