Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Franconia Road

Police are investigating the fatal accident that happened Wednesday afternoon.

Police are currently investigating a fatal crash that happened along Franconia Road near the on-ramp for I-395/I-95 Wednesday afternoon.

According to an FCPD news release, preliminary investigation of the accident shows that a woman was crossing the street, not in a crosswalk, around 2 p.m. when a 2002 Ford pickup struck and killed her.

Detectives are still working on confirming the woman's identity and notifying her next of kin, police say. Speed and alcohol do not seem to be factors on the part of the driver, according to police officials.

The crash is under investigation by Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives.
