Police Blotter: Knife at Edison, Disorderly Conduct at Hayfield and Lee Soccer Game

Every week, the Franconia Police District releases a crime summary, and Patch dives in and highlights the most notable crimes.

This week, things are a little out of order because the release of the March 20-26 summary was delayed. While was March 27-April 2, this is the blotter from March 20-26. Read on for notable incidents and updates on stories from last week's blotter:

Updates

Weapon Brandishing: Last week's blotter featured an individual brandishing a weapon over a parking spot at Springfield Mall. According to Franconia District spokesperson Officer Eduardo Azcarate, police eventually determined there was no brandishing.

"Alyssa" Graffiti: Police reported two instances of "RIP Alyssa" graffiti. According to Azcarate, the cases were closed after the graffiti was removed and the police ran out of leads.

 

Notable

Fraud: On March 21 in Springfield Plaza, an individual was sold a fake iPhone and portable video camera.

Disorderly Conduct: An intoxicated person ran onto a soccer field at Lee High School during a game, screaming curse words, on March 22.

Destruction: Graffiti reading "Life is good" and "RIP Alyssa" appeared on March 21 on a fence in the 5900 block of Wivenhoe Ct.

Weapons: On March 24, at Edison High School, a student reported seeing another student with a red folding knife.  The student was also carrying two lighters.

Disorderly Conduct: A student from another school began yelling obscenities at the school security specialist, at a school on the 7600 block of Telegraph Road on March 25.

 

Kingstowne

Destruction, 5900 Block of WIVENHOE CT, 3/21/11. Graffiti in black spray paint identified on an individual’s fence; graffiti read “Life is good” and “RIP Alyssa.”

Destruction of Private Property, 5800 Block of KINGSTOWNE BLVD, 3/21/11. An individual returned to her vehicle to find that it had been scratched on the driver’s side.

Destruction of Private Property, 5900 Block of KINGSTOWNE TOWNE CTR, 3/21/11. An individual returned to her vehicle to find the windshield and rear window shattered, in addition to a dent in the roof. 

DWI/Drugs, BEULAH ST / FRANCONIA SPRINGFIELD PKWY, 3/21/11. Following a traffic stop, the driver was determined to be under the influence of drugs.

Larceny, 6500 Block of KELSEY POINT CIR, 3/21/11. Individual returned to her two vehicles to find that they had been ransacked; cash was stolen from both vehicles.

Weapons, 5800 Block of FRANCONIA RD, 3/24/11. A student reported seeing another student with a red folding knife.  Student was also found to be in possession of two lighters.

Fraud, 7700 Block of ISLAND CREEK CT, 3/25/11. A fraudulent charge was made on an individual’s credit card.

Disorderly Conduct, 7600 Block of TELEGRAPH RD, 3/25/11. A student from another school began yelling obscenities at the school security specialist.

Fraud, 5900 Block of KINGSTOWNE TOWNE CTR, 3/25/11. An individual attempted to fill a fraudulent prescription.

Drugs, 5000 Block of TREETOP LN, 3/25/11. Following the discovery of two parked cars in a dead end, marijuana was identified in one of the vehicles.

Larceny, ROSE HILL DR / WAYSIDE PL, 3/25/11. A $13,000 vibratory plate compactor was stolen from a construction site.

Larceny, 7900 Block of TELEGRAPH RD, 3/26/11. An individual was arrested after stealing metal (downspouts and exterior siding) with intent to resell it.

 

Franconia and Rose Hill

Fraud, 6500 Block of SPRINGFIELD MALL, 3/20/11. An individual found that she was no longer in possession of her debit card; card was used to make numerous unauthorized purchases.

Larceny, 6600 Block of SPRINGFIELD MALL, 3/21/11. An individual attempted to steal items from the store.

Disorderly Conduct, 6500 Block of FRANCONIA RD, 3/22/11. Intoxicated individual ran onto a soccer field screaming curse words while a game was in progress.

Larceny, 5900 Block of COVERDALE WAY, 3/22/11. An individual returned to vehicle to find it up on blocks; all four tires and four rims had been stolen.

Drugs, 5500 Block of FRANCONIA RD, 3/23/11. Following a report of two students skipping school and a consensual search, marijuana was found.

Larceny, 6800 Block of FRONTIER DR, 3/23/11. An individual’s bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at the metro station.

Larceny, 6700 Block of FORSYTHIA ST, 3/23/11. An individual reported his wallet stolen.

Larceny, 6600 Block of FRONTIER DR, 3/24/11. A cell phone had been was stolen from the display stand at a cell phone store.

Stolen Property, 6100 Block of FRANCONIA RD, 3/24/11. An individual attempted to pawn a GPS unit that had been stolen from a vehicle earlier this month in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Burglary, 4400 Block of ROUNDHILL RD, 3/25/11. An individual reported that his locked garage had been entered and tools were stolen.

Embezzlement, 6500 Block of FRONTIER DR, 3/25/11. An individual reported that one of his employees was stealing merchandise.

Larceny, 6600 Block of FRONTIER DR, 3/25/11. An individual left his work van unlocked and later found that two drills and a box of drill bits were stolen.

Larceny, 6600 Block of FRONTIER DR, 3/25/11. An individual’s wallet from stolen from her shopping cart.

Destruction of Private Property, 6300 Block of GRAVEL AVE, 3/26/11. An individual returned to his car to find a scratch on the left rear passenger door, one circular scratch on the trunk, and circular scratches around the inside of both rear rims.

Destruction of Private Property, 3400 Block of BURGUNDY RD, 3/26/11. An individual heard a noise in another room of her residence; it appeared that a window had been struck and damaged by a paintball.

Drugs, FRANCONIA RD / SOUTH VAN DORN ST, 3/26/11. Following a traffic stop, individual was found to be in possession of marijuana.

 

East Springfield

Larceny, 6600 Block of ELECTRONIC DR, 3/20/11. Individual reported numerous down spouts stolen from building under construction.

Burglary, 7300 Block of ESSEX AVE, 3/21/11. An individual discovered that the door handle leading to their garage broken.  Officer determined that someone had broken one of the rear windows of the house and gained access into the garage.

Fraud, 6400 Block of SPRINGFIELD PLZ, 3/21/11. Suspect sold an individual a fake iPhone and portable video camera.

Drugs, 7500 Block of ACCOTINK PARK RD, 3/22/11. Individuals were identified driving in Accotink Park late at night; marijuana found in vehicle.

Larceny, 7100 Block of EVANSTON RD, 3/22/11. An individual reported that a suspect had been going through his trash looking for things of value, and most recently the suspect stole two tree limb loppers.

Destruction of Private Property, 5800 Block of HANOVER AVE, 3/24/11. An individual who owns a home and is attempting to rent it out found that a rear window was broken and partially open.  The door to the shed was also ajar, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Drugs, AMHERST AVE / ESSEX AVE, 3/24/11. Following a traffic stop, an individual was found to be in possession of marijuana.

Larceny, 5400 Block of INDUSTRIAL DR, 3/25/11. Several company vehicles had been broken into and power tools were stolen.

Robbery, DORCHESTER ST / ESSEX AVE, 3/26/11. Following an argument between two individuals, one threatened the other with a liquor bottle and stole a backpack with a Sony Vaio laptop, charger, external hard drive, and webcam.

 

Bren Mar/Edsall/Annandale

Destruction of Property, 5100 Block of BEDLINGTON TER, 3/20/11. Phone and cable lines were cut at an individual’s home.

Disorderly Conduct, 7000 Block of LEEWOOD FOREST DR, 3/20/11. An individual had parked in her neighbor’s reserved parking space by mistake; the neighbor returned home intoxicated and yelled at the individual until (and after) the vehicle was moved.

Attempted Larceny, 7300 Block of HOGARTH ST, 3/21/11. An individual reported that two males were trying to take tools from his trailer, which was parked in front of his home.

Auto Theft, 7500 Block of LONG PINE DR, 3/23/11. An individual stole an unlocked vehicle that was parked in a driveway under a car port.

Destruction of Private Property, 6600 Block of LITTLE RIVER TPKE, 3/23/11. A Dominion Power substation was entered; chain link fence that surrounds station was cut out. Nothing of value kept in station.

Larceny, 5700 Block of GENERAL WASHINGTON DR, 3/23/11. Both license plates from a vehicle were stolen from a repair shop.

Tampering, 7600 Block of LONG PINE DR, 3/23/11. Individual returned to vehicle to find that someone had been in the vehicle the previous night.  Documents from the glove compartment had been strewn about but nothing appeared to be stolen.  When the individual attempts to unlock the vehicle by remote, the driver’s side door no longer unlocks.

Auto Theft, 7500 Block of LONG PINE DR, 3/24/11. An individual’s vehicle was stolen while parked in his driveway.

Destruction, 5100 Block of BEDLINGTON TER, 3/24/11. A utility phone line had been intentionally severed again (previous documented on 3/20/11).  

Larceny, 6200 Block of BREN MAR DR, 3/24/11. An individual reported that someone had broken into her husband’s work van and stole gas-powered lawn tools.

Robbery, 4400 Block of BACKLICK RD, 3/25/11. Individuals attempted to rob a bank using a firearm.

Larceny, 5700 Block of ANOLA CT, 3/26/11. An individual’s driver’s license and Visa card were stolen from her purse.

 

Lorton

Disorderly Conduct, 10700 Block of RICHMOND HWY, 3/20/11. A bar patron became upset that his wife had been cut-off at the bar and had to be escorted out by bar security.

Destruction of Public Property, 9500 Block of RICHMOND HWY, 3/21/11. Two windows of a vehicle shot with BB gun.

Destruction of Private Property, 9400 Block of JENERIO CT, 3/22/11. Individual returned to vehicle to find the driver’s side window smashed; nothing appeared to be missing from vehicle.

Destruction of Private Property, 7800 Block of STOVALL CT, 3/22/11. An individual’s rear windshield of vehicle cracked and crumbled; it appeared to have been damaged by a BB gun.

Destruction of Private Property, GROOM COTTAGE DR / HORSESHOE COTTAGE CIR, 3/23/11. An individual returned to his vehicle to find the rear passenger-side window shattered.  A neighbor’s vehicle also had their rear window shattered.

Destruction of Private Property, 9400 Block of RICHMOND HWY, 3/23/11. An individual destroyed a coffee pot and was being disruptive inside of a convenience store; appeared to be in a drug-induced stupor.

Weapons, 7800 Block of LEWIS CHAPEL CIR, 3/23/11. Following a 911 hang-up call, an individual reported that someone had pointed a gun at him in front of his apartment building.

Destruction of Private Property, 8900 Block of LORTON STATION BLVD, 3/24/11. Suspect took a large rock and smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle.  Some type of electronic device was stolen.

Destruction of Private Property, GROOM COTTAGE DR / HORSESHOE COTTAGE CIR, 3/24/11. An individual returned to his vehicle to find the driver’s side window shattered; nothing appeared to have been taken.

Drugs, CULLUM ST / LAGRANGE ST, 3/25/11. Following a suspected trespassing stop, individual was found to be in possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
