Police Chase, Crash Slows Traffic on 395 Near Edsall

Both the police officer and the suspect received injuries in the crash

Morning rush hour traffic on I-395 near Edsall Road has been slowed today by the aftermath of an early morning police chase.

Around 4 a.m., a Fairfax County Police Department officer attempted to pull over a car on the northbound side of I-95 near the Fairfax County Parkway for defective equipment on their vehicle. The driver of the car attempted to flee, and several FCPD officers responded.

As the chase neared north I-395 near Edsall Road, one officer attempted the Precision Immobilization Technique, a maneuver in which a police car taps its front against a fleeing car's rear in an attempt to force the car into a controlled crash.

The PIT maneuver succeeded, and both vehicles were brought to a halt. After a short foot chase, the suspect was apprehended. He will likely be charged, at least, with a traffic violation and fleeing, according to an FCPD spokesperson, who did not have information about the suspect's name.

The crash slowed early morning traffic on 395 and closed the Edsall Road off-ramp. It is expected to reopen shortly.
