Police Investigate Hit and Run in Franconia

The Fairfax County Police Department are asking for the public's assistance in locating a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run that seriously injured a 16-year-old boy, according to a news release from police issued Sunday morning.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, police responded to the report of a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Broadmoor Street.

FCPD's preliminary investigation determined that a red minivan was traveling south on Telegraph Road and entered the left turn lane to turn left onto Broadmoor Street in front of Hayfield Secondary School.

At the time, the boy was in the crosswalk at that intersection, and witnesses say the minivan struck the child and never stopped, continuing onto Broadmoor Street. The minivan may have sustained damage to the front end. The victim was transported with what are believed to be serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are encouraging the driver of the minivan to come forward to resolve this incident.
