Police Looking for Fairfax County Purse Robber

Man takes wallets from purses, then uses credit cards

The Alexandria Police Department is asking for the public's help finding a man connected with robberies of women's purses throughout the Washington metropolitan region.

The incidents, which began in November 2009, follow a pattern. A woman is shopping, and a man approaches her and takes her wallet out of her purse, possibly using an accomplice to distract her. The man then immediately goes to department stores, clothing stores, and restaurants to spend money on the victim's credit cards.

The man has been linked to larcenies in Fairfax County, Alexandria, Loudoun County, Montgomery County, and Charles County.

The man is described as a black male, between 35 and 45 years old, between 5'9" and 6', with a medium or stocky build and full beard. Police say he is well-groomed.
