Remains Found of Missing Springfield Man Oscar Velasco Montano

A mysterious case involving a Springfield man missing for 19 months appears to have been solved, according to a news report Friday morning by the Frederick News Post.

Remains found south of Frederick, Md., near New Design Road are apparently that of Oscar Velasco Montano of Springfield, who went missing July 9 2011, according to the newspaper report.

It's uncertain when family and friends may have found out that the remains belong to Velasco Montano. A note dated Jan. 17 on a Facebook page dedicated to helping find Velasco Montano, reads (translated from Spanish):

"My most felt condolences to the family of our brother, friend, coworker who will always remember him with much appreciation. That the Lord keep you in glory."

On July 9, 2011, the day he went missing, Velasco Montano showed up to work as usual at 1861 International Drive, an office building near Tysons Corner Mall. That was the last time anyone saw him.

The family of the then-30-year-old Springfield-area resident reported him missing two days later.

Fairfax County police said in December 2011 that they had uncovered more details indicating Velasco Montano's disappearance was not voluntary, and they wanted the public's help in locating him.

A tree-trimming crew apparently found the remains in August 2012, according to the newspaper report.
