Springfield Man Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting Alexandria Police Officer
Clarence Tyree, 46, of Springfield, Va., has been sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for maliciously causing bodily injury to an Alexandria police officer.
An unnamed Alexandria patrol officer was investigating possible thefts from parked vehicles in the 100 block of S. Peyton Street in Old Town when he encountered Tyree on Dec. 25, 2012.
When the officer attemped to detain Tyree, he was attacked. Tyree punched the officer in the head repeatedly and knocked him to the ground. The officer was left unconscious and bleeding when Tyree fled the scene, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
The officer was transported to the hospital and missed several weeks of work as a result of the attack. The officer has recovered and has resumed his duties as a patrol officer. His name and other information will not be released.

The defendant was convicted on Tuesday, May 7 following a jury trial. The jury recommended that the defendant serve 15 years in prison for the assault, and Chief Circuit Court Judge Lisa Kemler imposed that recommendation Thursday, June 27.
