Absentee Voting Begins Friday

If you've got a valid excuse, you can vote before Nov. 6 in person at the elections office, at satellite offices or by mail.

The election is Nov. 6, but if you're not going to be here, don't sweat it. You can vote absentee.

Absentee voting begins Friday for Fairfax County residents. You have the option of showing up in person at the Office of Elections starting Friday, mailing in your ballot, or visiting a satellite voting office around the county (these open Oct. 17).

Some valid excuses for voting absentee that will pass muster, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections:

  • If you're confined awaiting trial.
  • If you're pregnant.
  • If you'll be working and commuting longer than 11 hours on Election Day, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

If you work in a Va. county outside Fairfax, like Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, PWC, or in another state like DC, Maryland, you can vote early, starting on Friday and continuing until November 3. There are 19 different reasons that will enable you to vote early. Almost every voter in Fairfax can vote early.
