Business Journal: CIA Operation Near Franconia-Springfield

Supervisors have proposed warehouse complex as new site for FBI HQ

The government warehouse complex near the Franconia-Springfield Metro station that is being considered to house the new FBI headquarters already has one secretive tenant, reports the Washington Business Journal: the CIA.

“My understanding is there is a three-letter agency that is at the site,” Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity told WBJ reporter Michael Neibauer. According to the article, which requires a subscription to the paper to read, the paper's sources say the CIA is operating at a building at 6801 Springfield Center Dr., possibly managing a communications center.

The agency's sensitive operations would explain the government's previous refusals to sell the site, according to the article.
