Firefighters, Developers Lead in Contributions to Bulova

Republican Williams receives contributions from former prospective chairman candidate

A firefighters' union and commercial real estate developers lead in donations for the re-election campaign of Fairfax County Chairman Sharon Bulova (D), while her opponent's campaign is backed by a former administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency.

Bulova — $100,000 more — than Michael "Spike" Williams, her Republican rival for the chairman's seat, according to campaign disclosures filed by both campaigns for the period between the beginning of April and the end of June.

Williams's top campaign contributor is Marianne Horinko, a former acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency who planned to run against Bulova herself. She's donated $6,000 to his campaign.

In the first quarter of the year, Williams' campaign also received a transfer of around $15,000 from his previous campaign for the 33rd Virginia Senate District.

Developers and builders have also donated to Williams' campaign. He's received $4,000 in rent and $1,500 in contributions from Chris Walker, the owner of Walker Management, a real estate company. According to a biography of Walker on a Tea Party website, he advocates for turning the Dulles Toll Road into a free highway.

Williams has also received $5,000 in contributions from Sydney E. Albrittain, who works at Vienna-based construction firm Dittmar Co.

Bulova's top contributor, FIREPAC, is a political action committee operated by the International Association of Fire Fighters union, which represents some firefighters in Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. FirePAC has given Bulova $53,500 so far in her re-election bid.

Two commercial real estate developers, 8500 CDC LP and Tysons West Assemblage, have also contributed large amounts to Bulova's campaign, at $35,000 and $30,000, respectively.

George Vradenburg, a philanthropist and retired executive at America Online, which owns Patch, is Bulova's fourth-largest contributor at $20,000. Vradenburg is a registered Republican in Washington, D.C., according to the Washington Post.

Kingstowne Commercial LP, a partnership that operates Kingstowne Towne Center, has donated $5,000 to Bulova's campaign.
