Mayor Julian Castro of Texas to Visit Springfield

Castro will help launch the Get Out the Vote canvas in the Springfield area Saturday morning

Mayor Julian Castro, of San Antonio, TX, will visit Springfield and help the Franconia Springfield 2013 Democratic Campaign Office launch its Get Out the Vote canvas Saturday morning.

Castro, who became the first Hispanic keynote speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, will be at the Springfield office at 9 a.m., said Lee District Democrats Co-Chair Steve Bunn. The office is located at 6354-A Commerce St. in Springfield.

According to the Lee District Democrats website, the district has the "highest voter turn out targets in Northern Virginia and the second highest in the Commonwealth." The organization is looking for volunteers to help canvass the area and knock on doors to help get the word out about registering to vote.
