Metro Board Splits Blue Line During Rush Hour

Trains will be rerouted to the Yellow Line to alleviate Orange Line crowds.

Metro's board approved the plan to change Blue, Yellow and Orange Line rush hour service during a meeting Thursday.

The Huffington Post reports that the "Blue Line split" will make more room for packed Orange Line trains during rush hour. Blue Line trains from Franconia-Springfield will be rebranded for Yellow Line Service and sent into the District of Columbia via the Yellow Line's Potomac River bridge.

The service change will alleviate crowds on the Orange Line during morning and evening rush hours, but will cause some waiting for customers using the Blue Line via Arlington Cemetery.

Residents who use Metro for their morning and evening commutes may want to pay attention to a customer service meeting Thursday, Oct. 12.

The Washington Post reports that Metro's board will be meeting to vote on "implementing service line changes to the Blue and Yellow lines."

According to the Post, Metro chief spokesman Dan Stessel said Blue Line trains would be re-routed over the Yellow Line bridge. Metro would also add three trains in each direction on the Orange Line between West Falls Church and Largo Town Center.

The changes will benefit many customers but could cause other customers at Rosslyn to have to wait longer for a Blue Line train.
