New Metro Schedule Will Reduce Service on Blue Line

Changes are being made in advance of the Dulles rail extension

A new Metro train schedule will change rush hour service on the Blue Line, including the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn St. stations, next year.

The changes will result in fewer trains leaving Franconia-Springfield on the Blue Line, while rerouting other trains departing from the station onto the Yellow Line after Van Dorn St, according to the Washington Post. The move is being made to prepare for the 2013 Dulles rail expansion, and allow more trains to service orange line stations stations west of Rosslyn.

The plan, which goes into effect in June 2012, is expected to increase wait times for Blue Line trains at Franconia-Springfield. The Yellow Line trains leaving Franconia-Springfield during rush hour will be marked, and will travel as far as the Greenbelt station.
