Metro Train Strikes, Kills Woman at Van Dorn St

Metro says woman intentionally placed herself on the tracks

A woman was struck by a Metro train at the Van Dorn Street Metro station around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning. She placed herself in front of the train and was immediately killed, according to Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel.

"We have reviewed camera footage and it was intentional," Stessel said.

The involved train was moved from the scene around 8:49 a.m.

Blue Line trains single-tracked between Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield as a result, and riders should expect delays during this morning's commute. Some Blue Line trains were rerouted to Huntington to relieve congestion during the single-tracking.
