RESULTS: Ebbin, Frederick, Cooper Win Tuesday Primaries

Three head to general elections in November.

Rose Hill voters on Tuesday pushed Adam Ebbin, Jeffrey M. Frederick and William (Bill) Cooper into November’s general election.

Ebbin narrowly won the 30th District State Senate Democratic primary, Frederick solidly won the 36th District State Senate Republican primary, and Cooper won the Republican primary for Fairfax County Sheriff.

Overall voter turnout was low (even for a primary election), and some think Tuesday afternoon’s earthquake distracted people from voting after work.

Less than 10 percent of eligible voters in the State Senate 30th District voted Tuesday, and about 5 percent voted in the Senate 36th District. Voter participation rates were not yet available for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s primary.

Absentee ballots don't get counted until Wednesday, according to Susan Pollard, director of communications, Virginia State Board of Elections. Provisional ballots, for those who voted Tuesday but need their ballots verified, won't be counted until the verification process is complete. Elections aren't truly official until Sept. 6, when state officials certify them.

Frederick Wins Senate Primary, 36th District

soundly defeated in the primary for the State Senate, 36th District. Frederick took 68.83 percent of the votes.

Frederick and Munoz were in a heated Republican race, clashing over everything from taxes to debates.

Frederick will face Democratic incumbent Toddy Puller, who has served in the Virginia State Senate since 2000. Puller was a state delegate from 1992 – 2000. Frederick was a member of the House of Delegates.

Just before 9:15 p.m., Munoz released a statement conceding the election. “What is most important now is that we concentrate on taking back the Senate from the majority Democrats, who seem to care about little else than scoring political points against Governor McDonnell,” Munoz wrote. “In order create jobs, we must keep taxes low, control spending and reduce government regulations.  To do that, we must elect more conservative candidates to the Virginia Senate.”
