Road Improvements Made at Mark Center

VDOT re-timed traffic lights, re-striped lanes.

Several new improvements are in place now to ease traffic on I-395 near Mark Center in Alexandria, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced today.

According to a press release from the governor's office, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has re-timed traffic lights, installed new signage and re-striped the I-395/Seminary Road interchange rotary to allow dual left turn lanes for traffic headed to the Mark Center building.

Monitoring in September revealed delay issues for northbound traffic exiting at Seminary Road, according to the release. These findings led VDOT to re-time traffic lights.

These improvements are the first of many in the area. A  connecting I-395's northbound HOV lanes to Seminary Road has been proposed but will not be complete until at least 2014.

A public hearing on the draft Environmental Assessment and preliminary design is tentatively planned for late January 2012.
