UPDATED: Rose Hill Area Voters Turn Out for Election Day 2011

Polling officers say turnout is normal for election of this type.

UPDATE (Nov. 8, 6 p.m.): Vote tallies were varied in locations around the Rose Hill area as of 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.

At Rose Hill Elementary in precinct 410, 789 of roughly 4,000 people had voted as of 5:40 p.m. 

In precinct 423 at Clermont Elementary, 611 residents had voted.

At Cameron Elementary in precinct 402, only 181 of about 1,000 residents had voted. Gary Griesmeyer, a polling officer for 20 years, said officials at Cameron had seen a normal turnout for that particular precinct. 

in precinct 401 had tallied 770 of 3,234 registered voters. William Connery, the polling chief at Bush Hill, said they expected about 1,000 votes before the night was through.

Polling officers around the greater Rose Hill area were pleased with the morning voter turnout Tuesday.

Turnout for Tuesday's election is expected to be about 30 percent, about the same as 2007's similar election, according to a Washington Post article. Today's election includes races for county supervisors and school board seats, as well as statehouse races.

Otis Langford, the polling officer at precinct #410 at , said voters were showing up to the polls as expected.

“Traditionally, this has been a pretty model precinct,” he said. “I expect the final turnout to be right around [30 percent].”

As of 11:30 a.m., the Rose Hill precinct had a little less than 200 recorded votes of the precinct's roughly 4,000 registered voters, Langford said, and there was a line of about 30 people when polls opened at 6 a.m. today.

Polling officers at and also said they expected to hit the estimated 30 percent turnout figure by the end of the day.
