Toddy Puller Announces Reelection Bid For State Senate

She will run under the newly drawn state senate districts

Touting her energy and experience, Democrat Linda “Toddy” Puller announced her candidacy for reelection as state senator for the 36th district Wednesday.

"I want to continue serving the constituents of the 36th District in Northern Virginia and all Virginians to make sure our Commonwealth remains one of the best states to do business and to raise a family," she said in a statement. 

Puller will be running under the newly drawn state senate districts.  Under the new map the 36th district  but gains ground in Prince William and Stafford counties.

Puller has served as senator for the 36th district since 2000.  She served in the House of Delegates from 1992-2000.

"I am running again because I have the energy and experience to get things done in Richmond,” she said.  And, I want to ensure that some of the critical pieces of legislation and initiatives I have introduced and worked on will continue to receive the attention necessary to keep things moving forward in Virginia."

Among some of the accomplishments she cited,  the Route 1 area in Fairfax, Prince William and Stafford Counties for possible transportation projects.

 which requires emergency vehicles to use sirens when passing through stop signs or lights. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Joint Commission on Health Care.

So far she has raised $259,842 dollars for the general election, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, a non-profit that promotes political transparency. Puller said the announcement of a new campaign office would be made soon.

Currently running for the Republican ticket, include former state delegate Jeffrey M Frederick and Prince William County businessman Tito Muñoz, according to the non-profit.

The general election is scheduled to take place on November 8th.

Puller graduated from Mary Washington College, after which she taught fourth grade in Woodbridge, according to her website. She married Pulitzer-prize winning Lewis Puller, who lost both legs and six fingers as a marine in the Vietnam war.
