Valley View Sinkhole Could Be Repaired Next Month

Construction depends on access to easements, supervisor says

A Franconia sinkhole that will likely be repaired in November, according to Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay (D).

McKay said the Virginia Department of Transportation has funding to repair for the sinkhole on Valley View Drive. He expects VDOT to have a schedule for the repair work in the next week, with an aim to finish the work in November to avoid winter weather.

McKay said construction, when it begins, would close the affected portion of Valley View for a couple of days. Temporary repairs have been made to the road since the sinkhole opened in September, allowing cars to drive on it.

VDOT hopes to obtain temporary construction easement for properties around the sinkhole to make construction easier. The repairs could take longer if VDOT does not obtain the easements, according to McKay.
