Edison Renovations Almost Complete

The Edison High School renovations should be completed in October.

Three years and $48 million later, the renovations at are expected to be finished next month.

"It's pretty remarkable," said Supervisor Jeff McKay. "The transformation is tremendous between what it used to be and what it is now."

Kevin Sneed, director of Fairfax County Public Schools Design and Construction Services, said that all major construction has been finished. The contractors just have to complete some finishing touches on a few areas. Inspectors also need to do their final evaluations.

Any indoor work that is still ongoing in areas where students are present during the day is being done either after school hours or on the weekends.

According to Sneed, the following are some of the projects that have been completed:

  • Replacement of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Replacement of floors, ceilings and doors
  • New administrative suite in front of building
  • New library on the second floor

The construction added 48,000 square feet to the property, giving it a total of 351,000 square feet that holds 1,875 students. Funds for the project, which totaled to just over $48 million, were acquired through the Fairfax County 2005 school bond referendum
