Football pushes win streak to three

Hayfield Field Hockey (12-7-1):

Hayfield’s season came to a close on Tuesday as the Hawks were defeated 3-0 by Fairfax in the opening round of the 2011 Regional Tournament. Hayfield field hockey reached several memorable milestones this season, which include: 12 wins, the return to post-season play and an eight-game win streak. The 12 wins double last year’s total and are the most posted by a Hayfield field hockey team in at least five seasons.

Hayfield Football (6-2):

The Hawks defeated Washington-Lee 36-0 last Friday and moved into sole possession of second place in National District standings with a 4-1 district record. Hayden Knudson dominated in the contest, catching four passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns and blocking and returning a field goal attempt 93 yards for a touchdown.

Running back Stephen Lynch gained 131 yards rushing and scored a touchdown. The win extends Hayfield’s win streak to three as the team prepares to host winless National District foe Falls Church this Friday in the last home game of the season. The Hawks have outscored opponents 63-6 in their last two games and have scored 110 points during the win streak.

JV Football (4-1):

The Hawk JV squad defeated Washington-Lee 20-18 on the road last Thursday and grabbed its fourth win. The team travels to Falls Church this Thursday.

Freshman Football (5-1):

Freshman football defeated Washington-Lee 36-0 last Thursday and face Falls Church this Thursday.

Hayfield Volleyball (4-10):

Resilient best describes the character of this year’s volleyball team. Despite the slow first half of the season, the Hawks have managed to end the second half on a positive note. The team has gone 3-1 in their last four games, the third victory occurring this Monday over Falls Church.

The Hawks face Wakefield at home this Wednesday for the last game of the season and look to cap the season with a win.

Junior Varsity Volleyball (7-8):

The Hawks host Wakefield this Wednesday for their last game and have a chance to finish the season at .500 with their eighth win.

Freshmen Volleyball (10-5):

The freshmen volleyball team notched its tenth win this season on Monday, defeating Falls Church 2-0. The Hawks draw Wakefield this Wednesday for the final game of a very successful season.
