Freshman Volleyball pushes win streak to five

Hayfield Field Hockey (11-5-1):

Hayfield saw their eight-game win streak end Tuesday, Oct. 11, as Washington-Lee (8-5) defeated the Hawks 2-0. The loss caps an impressive 11-win regular season, six of which came in National District play. The team has five days to rest before the opening round of the 2011 Nation District tournament which begins on Monday, Oct. 17.

Prior to Tuesday’s loss, the Hawks defeated Falls Church 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 6, and Wakefield 4-1 on Monday, Oct. 17. In the team’s win against Wakefield, Ariana Hanaity scored two goals and Macy Dolton and Brooke Watson contributed with one goal apiece.

Hayfield Football (4-2):

Hayden Knudson hauled in two touchdown passes of 16 and 17 yards in Hayfield’s 47- 23 National District victory over Wakefield (0-6) on Thursday, Oct. 6. Hayfield’s 47 points were a season high. The win ends a two-game losing streak and gives the Hawks a 2-1 National District record.

Hayfield built a 41-point lead heading into the game’s final quarter before allowing 23 fourth quarter points to Wakefield. Steven Lynch, Hayden Knudson, Ellis Knudson, Steven Ross, Theodore Mayo and Osman Kargbo all scored touchdowns in the win.

The Hawks host Mount Vernon (4-2) in a key district contest this Friday, also the school’s homecoming. Hayfield defeated Mount Vernon 14-10 last year in an thriller of a game that was won on the final play, a Hayfield toucdown run.

Hayfield Volleyball (1-9):

The struggle continues for Hayfield Volleyball. The team dropped two contests this week, brining their record to 1-9 on the season. Edison (10-10) defeated the Hawks 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Stuart (16-1) defeated them 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

With just five games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Hawks will look to pick up wins this week wins against on Wednesday, Oct. 13 against West Potomac (3-11) and Mount Vernon (7-10) on Monday, Oct. 17.    

JV Volleyball (4-7):

After dropping seven consecutive games, JV Volleyball went 2-0 this week. The team defeated Edison 2-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Stuart 2-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Hayfield hosts West Potomac on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and travels to Mount Vernon on Monday, Oct. 17.

Freshman Volleyball (8-4):

The Hawks extended their win streak to five with wins over Edison and Stuart this week.

Hayfield travels to Mount Vernon on Monday, Oct. 17 and hosts Yorktown on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
