VIDEO: Lee High School Soccer Players Sign Letters of Intent

Meghan Cox has committed to playing soccer for James Madison University, and Daniela Neves will play for West Virginia University.

Robert E. Lee High School varsity soccer players Meghan Cox and Daniela Neves signed their letters of intent Wednesday morning to play for James Madison University and West Virginia University respectively. The athletes' friends, families and supporters were there to congratulate them.

Cox and Neves have known each other since preschool and have played on their high school and club teams together for many years. Neves started playing soccer when she was 3 years old, and Cox when she was 4.

"It's been a great experience, and this is a great opportunity. I feel so blessed," Neves said. "I'm grateful for the coaching staff and the girls I play with [at Lee] because it's just a great feeling to have their support."

Both athletes play the forward position on defense. During her time at Lee, Cox has earned Team MVP, First Team All District, All Region, All State and First Team All Met. Cox also played varsity field hockey for the high school in 2011. Neves has also earned multiple awards, including Team MVP and First Team All District.

Cox said she chose JMU because she loves the outdoors and she loved the atmosphere on campus.

"When I stepped foot on campus, I fell in love with it. Just the atmosphere and the coaches, and I already knew I wanted to play soccer in college," Cox said.

Neves will enter WVU undecided, but she said she has more than 100 majors to choose from, and Cox plans to study sports marketing and management.

It has been a long journey for both athletes, and their families are ready to see them play at the next level.
