Bracketology strategy, the NIT, favorites to win and the NCAA East Regionals at Verizon Center in DC.

There's increasing debate over whether March Madness makes office workers more or less productive, but it starts this week either way.

March Madness 2013 first-round games started Tuesday and the tournament doesn’t end until the final buzzer of the last game on Monday, April 8.

Here in Virginia, a number of men’s college basketball teams are “in the dance” – Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Liberty University, James Madison University (JMU) and, in DC, Georgetown.

According to CBSSports.com, "There is no exact science to filling out a bracket. So much ends up being a result of gut feeling, intuition (male or female) and good, old fashioned luck."

A few tips:

  • In the first round, don't book any major upsets (a 16 seed beating a 1 seed).
  • Look for "veteran" teams—teams that have been in the dance before or teams with a lot of seniors in their starting line-up will do better than a freshman-heavy team.
  • Who's hurt? If a high-performer from earlier this season is hurt or very prone to injury, you may not want that player's team in Final Four.
