Edison Girls Relay Team Moving on to States

4x800-meter squad takes region title

The Edison indoor track and field team was very lively on the sidelines throughout the day at the Northern Region Championship meet from the Field House at George Mason University Saturday. But they exploded with cheer when their girls’ 4x800-meter relay team pulled off a first-place finish, four seconds ahead of the second place Thomas Jefferson team.

“They came out of nowhere and won the whole thing,” Eagles’ head coach Ivan Chirinos said after the meet. “They came in ranked sixth or seventh and beat everyone out, that was very special for us.”

The Edison girls team finished in fourth place while the boys came in 10th.

The Eagles also had some great jumpers on the day, as sophomore Anna Williams took fourth in the long jump, while triple jumpers George Owino and Kristina Brown came in second and fifth, respectively.

“This late in the season you either have it or you don’t have it,” Chirinos said referring to how the Eagles will approach practice this week. “We’ll pretty much keep things normal and get all of our qualifiers ready for states.”
