Edison Golf Has Rough Opening Round

Eagles highly unlikely to advance to state championship, while Hayfield's individual qualifiers struggle, as well

After Edison's top-four golfers combined to shoot a 353 in the opening round of the Northern Region Championship Tuesday, 49 shots behind the leader Chantilly, it looks like Wednesday will be the team's final round of the season.

Apri Nimjarensuk's eight-over 80 led the Eagles. She was followed by Danny Riley (81), Daniel Plunket and Tim Goeghlin (96), Nick Ammeen (98) and Andrew Potts (117).

Hayfield did not qualify as a team, but sent three individual golfers to the Northern Region Championship. Brad Johnson and Hunter Garth each shot an 84, while Tyler Reid carded a 91.

Chantilly leads the team competiton after posting a 304 on Tuesday, while Langley is in second with 310. The Saxons' Will Byrne had the best individual score, with a one-over 73. Chantilly's Ji Soo Park and Robinson's Alexandra Austin are tied for second at 74.

Day two kicks off from Twin Lakes Golf Course at noon.
