Knudson Wins Athlete of the Week

Two touchdown receptions vault Hawks to playoffs

Hayden Knudson's first touchdown reception against Edison last Friday, a 9-yard hookup with quarterback Jason Stewart, gave the Hawks a comfortable 14-0 lead. His second, this one from 26 yards out, essentially put the game out of reach.

Knudson also added an interception and, as Hayfield's kicker, converted four extra point attempts in the Hawks' 28-7 win over rival Edison that sent the Hawks to the playoffs.

His efforts earned him Kingstowne Patch's Athlete of the Week.

Hayfield Coach Roy Hill pointed to Knudson's second touchdown of the game, which came in the third quarter and put the Hawks ahead 21-7, as a sign that they've matured this season.

"We discussed how important it is to finish games in the second half," Hill said. "We had a couple games where we had leads in the first half, but had not finished them off. That was a crunch time coming back when they got back into the ball game."
