Lee Lancers Top Edison Eagles in Season Opener

The Eagles fall short with a final score of 75-61 during Thursday night's game.

The Lee High School Lancers started their season with a memorable win against the Edison High School Eagles Thursday night. The announcer called the game a "highly anticipated clash." The Eagles fell short to the Lancers, 75-61.

The pace of the game started off pretty fast with the Eagles scoring the first touchdown after Damien Jones, Jr. (No. 5) intercepted a Lancers pass. The Lancers quickly responded with a touchdown of their own but failed to score the extra point, bring the score to 7-6 in favor of the Eagles.

Much of the rest of the season opener between the two schools was spent in the end zone as if the defensive lines for the teams weren't present at all. By halftime, the score was 40-27 in favor of the Lancers.

By the end of the night, Lee managed to top Edison but neither team seemed to improve in keeping the opponent out of the end zone, bringing the final score to 75-61, Lee.

Some key players during the game include Jones (Edison Eagles), Ricky Todd (No. 22; Edison Eagles), Michael Jolly (No. 1; Lee Lancers), Akeem Bundu (No. 3; Lee Lancers) and Juan Fernando (No. 16; Lee Lancers).

Next week Friday, the Lancers will take on Chantilly High School at Chantilly, and the Eagles will go head to head with West Springfield High School at West Springfield next week Thursday.
