West Potomac Student To Swim For Pennsylvania College

Sara Bertram signs with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The academic standout also coaches for a Mount Vernon swim club.

West Potomac High School senior Sara Bertram has signed a letter of intent to swim next year for the Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 

The college — located in Indiana, Penn. — competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference of NCAA Division II.

Bertram has represented West Potomac at the Virginia State AAA championship meet the past three years in both individual and relay events.

She was a member of the 2012 state champion 200-yard freestyle relay team and the northern region record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team.  She trains with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and has qualified twice for the Junior Nationals Meet in Orlando.

In addition to her athletics, Bertram is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, a member of the National Honor Society and an officer of the National Art Honor Society.

She is an assistant coach for the Mount Vernon Park Gators Swim Team and has volunteered as a swim instructor with the Nadar Por Vida program for at-risk and minority youth.
