AFCU Collecting Backpacks and School Supplies

Angie Goff will be at the Kingstowne Apple Federal Credit Union branch on Tuesday, Aug. 21 to help collect donations.

NBC4's Angie Goff will be live from 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at  (AFCU) in Kingstowne collecting donations and backpacks filled with school supplies for NBC4's  program. 

"How can you learn if you don’t have the most basic tools to help you?" said Goff. "This is a way to help a student in need get off to the right start this school year."

The backpacks will be filled with the following supplies:

  • Two packs of loose leaf notebook paper
  • Two dozen #2 pencils
  • Two packages of cap erasers
  • Three spiral composition books
  • One yellow highlighter
  • Eight plain folders with pockets and brads or loose leaf binder with dividers
  • One package of 24 crayons and/or one package of colored pencils
  • Small pencil or supply box or zippered supply pouch
  • Two composition books
  • Paper glue
  • Box of Kleenex
  • Two packs of white copy paper
  • 12-inch ruler

If you'd like to help kids in Fairfax County Public Schools head back to school with what they need and can't make Goff's live broadcast, you can drop off a filled backpack or any of the above supplies at any AFCU location in Fairfax County, including the Kingstowne branch, until Aug. 23. There is a yellow collection box in the lobby and donations will go directly towards Collect For Kids

Cash donations are also welcome. According to AFCU's website, partnerships allow every $1 donated to turn into $4 worth of school supplies; $10 fills a backpack.
