Sept. 11, The Redskins and Mini Golf

Here's what's going on in NoVa this week.

The days of summer are slowly winding down. Before the nice weather slips away from us, enjoy some of local activities while there's still time. Here's what to look forward to in the Alexandria area this week.

Monday, Sept. 9

Go Skins!
 Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to play for the MondayNight Football opener of the Redskins against the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx field. Kickoff is at 7:10 p.m.

Mini-golf!
 It’s fun for the whole family. Top Golf USA has 36 holes of mini-golf on two courses. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and later on Friday and Saturday and until 10 p.m. Sunday It’s located at 6625 S. Van Dorn St. in Alexandria. 703-924-2600. Topgolf.com/alexandria.

Tuesday, Sept. 10

Hop on board a new water taxi service, connecting the National Mall, Georgetown and National Harbor. This service will be offered six days a week, Tuesdays through Sundays, with no service on Mondays, except holiday Mondays.Reservations may be made online, www.potomacriverboatco.com, or tickets may be purchased at the ticket booths at National Harbor and Georgetown.  At the National Mall, tickets may be purchased on the boat, on a space available basis.

Wednesday, Sept. 11

The City of Alexandria invites the public to a 10 a.m. remembrance ceremony for the 12th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The event will take place in Market Square at 301 King St. The purpose of the commemoration is to give thanks and pay tribute to those who responded on 9/11 without fear, acted without hesitation, and gave their lives to save others. The ceremony will feature remarks from Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, Police Chief Earl Cook, and Fire Chief Adam Thiel.

Friday, Sept. 13

Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit that tours the country selling donated wedding gowns with the proceeds going toward programs and services for people who are impacted by cancer.  The "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" will make a tour stop in Washington, DC Sept. 13-14 at the Dupont Circle Hotel, 1500 New Hampshire Ave. http://www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/upcoming-shows-2013/washington-dc-bridal-show-september-2013/
