Police Release Photos of Suspect's Car in Springfield Kidnapping

Car followed victim's car as he was forced to drive to banks.

Fairfax County Police Department detectives have a new clue in the abduction of a Springfield man from his home earlier this month: a photo of a car that could have been used to help the suspected kidnappers.  In the early morning hours of May 9, last Wednesday, three men reportedly kidnapped a man from in front of his Cumberland Avenue home at gunpoint. The suspected kidnappers forced him to drive them in his car to two banks, where he withdrew money from ATMs. After taking the money, the reported kidnappers cut their victim before leaving him crammed in his car's trunk. Police Investigating Thefts from Construction Sites

Thefts span multiple months

Detectives in the Fairfax County Police Department are looking into a series of thefts from construction sites around the area. According to FCPD Officer Brooke Wright, thefts have occurred at several construction sites, including ones on Fleet Drive, King Centre Drive, Loisdale Road and Newington Road.   Tools were stolen in several of the incidents over the course of the past several months. In the incidents, thieves enter the sites at night when work has stopped for the day. On May 3, tools were stolen from a construction site on the 7000 block of Old Keene Mill Road. In Kingstowne, power tools were stolen from a site on the 5600 block of King Centre Drive in April. Burglars stole tools from a construction trailer on Franconia's Lakota …

Police Target Distracted Drivers in Franconia Area

What's the strangest thing you've seen someone do while driving?

If you clip your nails or eat cereal while driving, Fairfax County Police officers in the Franconia Police District were after drivers like you earlier this month. From April 28 to May 6, officers were targeting drivers who weren't paying full attention to the road. While police were on the look-out for notorious distractions like texting, there are also some more unusual things drivers do on the road that takes their eyes off the wheel.  "I have personally seen someone attempt to eat a bowl of cereal years ago while driving and another officer here at the station has told me about the eyebrow plucking," according to Officer Brooke Wright. Men Attempt to Walk Out of Walmart With TV's

Shoplifters maced an employee when they were confronted

Two brazen shoplifters walked out of the Walmart on Kingstowne Boulevard with two televisions last week, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Around 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, the men tried to carry out the televisions, walking right by a cashier. One Walmart employee noticed them and followed them outside. One suspect maced the pursuing employee. Both men then fled with the stolen televisions. Police have classified the incident as a robbery. Springfield Residents Among 28 Arrested for Honduran Cocaine Ring

Group allegedly smuggled cocaine into Northern Virginia, wired money to South America

Two Springfield residents allegedly participated in a cocaine ring which smuggled the drug into Northern Virginia, distributed it across the East Coast, then wired more than $1 million back to suppliers in Honduras over several years. Twenty-eight people were charged with conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine in connection with the case, officials from the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigations announced Wednesday. The charge carries a minimum mandatory of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison, U.S. Attorney's office spokesman Peter Carr said. Shoplifters Assault Kohl's Employee Over Shoes

Two teens assaulted employee.

A Kohl's employee was assaulted in a scuffle with suspected shoplifters last month, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.  On April 28, a Saturday, around 11:16 a.m., a loss prevention officer at the store noticed a teenage boy trying to steal a pair of shoes. The employee tried to stop the teen. Instead, the teen and another boy began assaulting the employee. The two suspects then managed to flee the scene. Man Abducted From His Home, Robbed, Stuffed in Trunk

Suspects cut victim with a knife and left him near Braddock Road.

Three men abducted a Springfield man from outside his home, forced him to withdraw money from ATMs, and left him in the trunk of his car early Wednesday morning, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Around 1:30 a.m., the 22-year-old victim was leaving his home on the 6100 block of Cumberland Avenue, near the Concord Shopping Center and Springfield Plaza. Three men with their faces covered approached him, demanding that he get into his own car at gunpoint.  The robbers drove the man to two banks, where they made him withdraw cash from the ATMs. The robbers then forced the man into the trunk of his car and drove the car to Piedmont Place near Braddock Road in the Annandale area. Child, 10, Injured in Drive-By Paintball Shooting

Springfield resident received minor injuries, according to police.

A child was shot with paintballs in a bizarre crime in Springfield last month, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.  On April 28, a Saturday, at around 8 p.m., a 10-year-old boy was standing on the corner of Belinger Court and Beverly Park Drive in a Springfield neighborhood south of the Franconia-Springfield Parkway. Someone drove up to the boy in a red van and began shooting him with paintballs before fleeing the scene. Memorial Vigils, Police Remembrance Ceremonies Ahead

May 8 marks the anniversary of an attack that killed two Fairfax County Police Department officers.

May is a difficult month for Fairfax County Police Chief David Rohrer and his department. May 8 marks the sixth anniversary of the tragic shooting deaths of two FCPD officers, and memorial vigils for fallen local and national comrades will be held on May 13 and 15. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed May 13-19 as Police Week and May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in the county. On a dreary afternoon on May 8, 2006, Michael Kennedy, a Centreville teen, opened fire at Detective Vicky Armel and Officer Michael Garbarino in the back parking lot of the Sully District Station.
