April is the biggest month for the eight Fairfax County golf courses and with warmer weather on the horizon, county officials are expecting to see a spike in rounds played. Judy Pedersen, a spokeswoman for the Fairfax County Park Authority, said April is the traditional time when golfers start thinking about and playing more golf – both because the weather is improving and because golf becomes more visible with key national events like The Master’s. The Edison Eagles started their baseball season in March.
Since the season started, the Edison Eagles varsity baseball team has had a few games postponed according to the schedule provided on the school's sports website. As for the games Edison has actually played this season, they haven't won very many. The Eagles' current overall record is 2-5. The Lancers started their baseball season in March.
The Lee High School varsity baseball team started in early March with scrimmages against South Lakes and Thomas Jefferson. The Lancers also participated in the Langley "Icebreaker" Tournament where they lost to Langley, 2-4 and beat Mount Vernon, 7-6. The Lancers then lost to Lake Braddock Secondary, 0-10, on March 20 and also lost to Osbourn Park High, 0-10, in the "Let's Play Two" Tournament on March 22. The team then won against Thomas Jefferson in the same tournament, 2-1. The Lancers lost two more games in the tournament after beating Thomas Jefferson. The Hayfield Hawks started their baseball season in March.
The Hayfield Secondary School baseball team has gotten off to a rocky start since their season opener against Mount Vernon March 21. The Hawks beat Mount Vernon, 10-0 then lost the next two games against McLean (4-8) and West Potomac (1-11). Hayfield beat Wakefield Tuesday, 11-2 and lost to Oakton High Wednesday, 3-17. Hayfield's current season record is 2-3 and they have a long season ahead of them. The Hawks will take on the Edison Eagles 6 p.m. Friday at Hayfield. Virginia teams begin their run for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Championship.
Trying to keep up with the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament? The Georgetown Hoyas are poised for a run that could get them farther into March Madness than they've been since at least 2007.
