Visions for Vacancies: Book Rack

What would you like to see at the Book Rack location?

Book Rack owner David Ek recently said that with online sales and popular e-readers ruling the book world, Book Rack isn't making much of a profit. Because of this, Ek will close Book Rack for good Saturday. The store has been in the plaza on Manchester Boulevard since 1993 and has had two previous owners before Ek. The bookstore is currently having a sale in an attempt to sell all of its inventory before closing. It's located between Baskin-Robbins and Manchester Bagel. What would you like to see in the Book Rack retail space after it closes? Tell us in the comments below.

Another Manchester Lakes business going under ...again! With the closure of the Florist, Train Store, Carpet, Dollar Store, Tanning Salon, just to name a few, it's no wonder that any business can succeed with the consistent increases of high rent. If a company wants to make a profit & pay the rent unfortunately they need to look elsewhere. We're so tired of losing businesses at this location due …   more ›

Where to Buy Traditional Books in the Kingstowne Area

With Book Rack on Manchester Boulevard closing, Kingstowne residents are in need of a store for those who still enjoy reading traditional books.

To fulfill your reading desires, stop by Barnes & Noble in Springfield located at 6646 Loisdale Road or in Alexandria at 3651 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Although B&N lacks the homey feel of Book Rack, it makes up for it in its wide selection of books, helpful and skilled …

Book Rack to Close for Good Saturday

With e-readers and online sales becoming the new normal, owner David Ek has decided to close up shop.

Saturday will be the last day of business for local book store Book Rack on Manchester Boulevard. The store is currently selling all its inventory at 75 percent off the cover prices in an attempt to sell everything in the store by Saturday. The store has been in the plaza since 1993, and as had three owners. Current owner, David Ek, has owned the store for almost three years. Ek said book sales are down and the rent for the space recently increased. "With rent and sales going down, it was not really providing a real profit," Ek said. With many of his customers receiving e-readers for Christmas in 2010, Ek said book sales just haven't been the same even though some customers still balance their desire for traditional books and reading on …
