Citizens to Speak Out Against Proposed Police Budget Cuts, at Supervisors Meeting

Representatives of the Chief's Council are scheduled to speak Thursday against the proposed cuts of four out of eight "station logistics technicians" as well as other departmental budget cuts.

Members of the  Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) are scheduled to speak at the Board of Supervisors meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday. The group will speak out against proposed cuts to the Fairfax County Police Department. Speakers are Leslie Jenuleson, Ray Powers, Bill Uehling and Sue Hotto who are members of the Chief's Council of the Fairfax County Police Department. At last month's CAC meeting, First Lieutenant William Jacoby — assistant commander for Franconia District Police Station — briefed residents on possible cuts, including cutting four station logistic technicians (SLT). The Patrol Division has been cut by more than 60 positions, 24 of them sworn officers, during the last fve years. The thin, blue line in Franconia and Kingstowne is muih to thin. Meanwhile, the schools have millions in unaccounted for funds and ask for more. Safety should be our first priority.   more ›

FCPD: Suspect Impersonating Police Officer Near Hechinger Drive

Franconia Police District commanders gave a brief crime update during Wednesday's CAC meeting.

A man has reportedly been impersonating a police officer near Hechinger Drive, according to Fairfax County Police.  That was one of the more unique crime reports that came out of a Wednesday night meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee. Police are investigating the incident. The main crime news: Robberies in the Franconia District are down, Captain Jim Baumstark said during the meeting. Baumstark and First Lieutenant William Jacoby said they've dealt with a few burglaries in the past few weeks where victims of these crimes left doors and/or windows of their homes unlocked. Well, the advice they give is not wasteful advice. I totally understand what you are saying, but that is not what I take away from the meetings. I've gotten some great ideas from these meetings. And maybe the article is doing a disservice to what is actually discussed at the meetings - and this is just one meeting that the Patch has attended in a while. Citizens Advisory Committee to Meet Wednesday

The CAC will have its monthly meeting at the Lee District Government Center.

The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lee District Government Center. Members will meet in the Helen Wilson Community Room, located at 6121 Franconia Rd. The meeting will begin with a presentation from a Crime Scene Officer with the Franconia District Police Station.
